    Ripping to NAS

I've just started ripping my Cd collection (FLAC) straight to my NAS. Jut started so it's 10 down and about 700 more to go. Before I continue, I read that there is a utility which rips to local drive then copy across? I can't find it anywhere. Do I really need one?

The purpose of Encode Local is to encode files locally (normally to the computers temporary folder), before sending the file to its final location (which could be a network shared folder, such as on a NAS). Why do this? for certain audio formats, such as Ogg vorbis, or FLAC, ID Tags are contained at the beginning of the file,

Is this really necessary? And what will be the consequences if I rip direct to NAS without this utility?

And is there instructions on how to use?

I've been reading the above link and looks like it still has some bugs?

How a re the folders created if rip to local drive? Do I then manually move the ripped files to the NAS?

I've ripped about 10 CD direct to NAS. From what I see, all seems ok to me. Sorry for these questions but I just need explanation why I can't rip and put the 'Path' to my NAS as I am doing now.

      Thanks

Ok, I just installed Encode Local but not yet use.

I can see that once I select 'Rip To' :Encode LOcal, I get another section where I select 'Encode To'. I select FLAC.

What do I put in the Local Encode Folder field? There is a %tmp% now. Do I just leave %tmp% there and Encode Local will auto encode FLAC into a temp folder in my C drive, then automatically transfer my files to my NAS ? I have the 'Path' already set to my NAS folder. Will Local Encode then remove all the temp files?

It is fully automatic, you would leave as %tmp%

as for if you need it, run a speed test with and without it.

Encode Local seems to be working great.

Question, will the files be removed from the temp folder automatically?
