- leave out gaps
- append gaps to previous track
- append gaps to next track

This one, unless you use R14 and the new DSP effect to remove the gaps.

I think this is an issue I am trying to solve too.

Can I clarify that the removal of gaps between tracks (ie when the tracks put in a continuous or live performance but the track name is there to identify the content rather than a real stop and then start of something new) is something that needs the next version to correct?

A live performance does not have any gaps, so there is nothing to remove.
