Ubuntu and Wine 1.2 - cdrom not detected

    Hi guys.

I am trying to run a licensed dBpoweramp under Ubuntu 10.04 and newest Wine 1.2.

dBpoweramp won't recognize my cdroms ( one internal, one usb).

I tried it on two different systems, with two different drives. No chance.

Eac runs on the same systems flawless.

On a first glance it seems that EAC in Aspi mode looks for Aspi devices and scans all /dev/sg1-sgx character devices until it finds a cdrom at /dev/sg3. Eac works pretty plug'n play here.

If I switch dBpoweramp to Aspi ( I also tried all other modes) I also get below error messages

fixme:aspi:SendASPI32Command ASPI: Partially implemented SC_HA_INQUIRY for adapter 0.
err:aspi:SCSI_OpenDevice Failed to open device /dev/sg0: Permission denied
fixme:aspi:SendASPI32Command ASPI: Partially implemented SC_HA_INQUIRY for adapter 1.
err:aspi:SCSI_OpenDevice Failed to open device /dev/sg1: Permission denied
fixme:aspi:SendASPI32Command ASPI: Partially implemented SC_HA_INQUIRY for adapter 2.
err:aspi:SCSI_OpenDevice Failed to open device /dev/sg2: Permission denied
fixme:aspi:SendASPI32Command ASPI: Partially implemented SC_HA_INQUIRY for adapter 3.

    Somehow that didn't work either.

BTW I am starting dBpoweramp with:

    env WINEPREFIX="/home/soundchekk/.wine/" wine "C:\Program Files\Illustrate\dBpoweramp\CDGrab.exe"
Note: I also had problems with the dBp menu entries. I experienced "file not found" issues. The automatic generated command line was wrong. Above command solved my problem.

I btw also ran winecfg to detect all drives under drives/drive mappings. ( though I think this is meant for block devices and not for character devices - it refers to /dev/sr0)

I also reinstalled wine, generated a new user and reinstalled dBp - bad luck here too.

I am running out of ideas.

    Any ideas are welcome?

    THX a lot.

    Is SCSI Passthrough Direct supported?

I tried all modes. Nothing worked out for me.

Do you suggest that this might be a Wine 1.2 issue which doesn't support SCSI passthrough?

Can I run a debug mode or something? Are there any logfiles?

I had it working some time ago. No idea what caused it to stop working.

You would have to debug Wine, not dBpoweramp as it has no special configuration to work.

Perhaps someone else who uses Wine can verify which communication method they are using.

I opened a thread over at wine forum.

However. Keep in mind that EAC is working!

BTW: Do you have an Ubuntu installed to verify the subject?

              Cheers

                  THX a lot.
Installed Dbpoweramp few minutes ago to rip my CD into Apple loseless
                  and made it work,
tested few times, seems flawless under wine:

go to wine config - drives - auto detect - find your drivers by clicking show advanced if an audio CD is inserted 1.2 wine will recognise it as Audio CD and manually assigned from there set your cd rom path (folder cdrom), then it is all done!

It seems to lag just slightly more than on windows while ripping but why should I bother! Now I have another justified reason to delete windows.
                  happy ripping!
