Song Stops at End rather than going to next track

Sorry if this has been posted before but I couldn't find it. Every once in a while I will rip a cd and it will be reported as accurate but when I play it back on my music server the song either stops before the end or at the end it will stop rather than going to the next song.

Any idea what might be the problem in these cases and what is the solution?

    Thanks in advance.

PS. I rip in in secure mode.

What is the music server and what is the player?, also what format are you ripping to?

ripping to FLAC. Music server is an Escient. Ripped my entire collection without problems. Only started happening a few times in the last few months.

Not sure what you mean by what player. Ripping on a desktop with W7.

It is likely a problem the the Escient, if you take one of the FLAC files which stopped and convert to >> Test Conversion in dBpoweramp, if there are any issues in the FLAC file an error message would show (FLAC has a built in checksum, if there are any errors it can self determine there was a problem).

There are two CDs with which I am having problems. I re-ripped both of them on a different drive. Again, DBPA indicates that they are secure and match other rips in the database. Still when I copy them over to my music server I get the same problems.

          No thoughts anyone? thx

Hmm. Can't imagine what the problem would be with the Esicent. It plays the rest of my collection without a problem. So DBPA is telling me that it was a secure rip BEFORE it converts to FLAC? You are saying there might be a problem with the FLAC version that Test conversion would reveal? thx

Just did a test conversion on a few of the FLAC files and it finished without error messages. So I assume that I can be confident tha the rips are good? Have sent an email to Escient to see if they have any thoughts. thx

Escient would likely require those flac files, it is possibly a bug in their decoding of certian FLAC files.

Still no response from Esicent!! I haven't changed any of the settings in DBPA so why would the FLACs created from the two CDs with which I am having problems be any different from all the other ones that work on my Escients?

I do not have access to Escients code so cannot comment. You might try different FLAC compression settings.

Hmm. I realized the only thing I had changed since the last time I successfully ripped and played a CD is that I had upgraded to W7. Checked on the DBPA site and there was an upgrade. Installed. Re-ripped the troublesome Cds. Copied to Esicent. The first song on one of the CDs played fine whereas before it would stop. Then the next song started playing and I noticed a very subtle skipping of words or even syllabes that the singer was singining. Then it stopped. Tried other tracks and same thing. tried the other CD and same thing.

Spoke with Escient tech and they were not of any help. Said try ripping a third CD. Not sure what that would do.

I have the FLAC settings on default which has always worked for me. What would you suggest I change them to? Why do you think that might help? thx

Just guessing, if Escient are not willing to track down why a valid FLAC file is skipping to next track there is little can be done.

Well I have tried everything I can think of. I installed DBPA on another computer and ripped the CDs again after DBPA calibrated the offset for the new drive. I noticed this time that DBPA did four passes and then re-ripped frames on each song but at the end it indicated that they were secure rips. Some of the songs played longer on the Esicent than before but still stopped before the end. I also ripped using a less compressed version of FLAC but still same result. I have two Escients and tried the rips on both of them with the same results. The CD's play fine in a CD player. This is really odd. Out of ideas now except to re-purchase the CDs and see if that works. Still I can't get my head around the idea that if DBPA indicates that I have the exact rip as 59 other people in the database why there would be a problem. A few months ago I ripped about 8 new CDs and had no problems. Again the only difference in my computer set up between now and then is that I installed W7 but since I have not seen any complaints about DBPA being flaky with W7 I don't see how that can be an issue.
