    another: Error on certain tracks on certain cds

    I keep having inconsistencies ripping. Some cd's rip just fine, others, on or two tracks get erro messages of "Unable to read cd', and the same message for instance on P> Barber's Modern Cool SACD (using the sacd plut in) where ther first 5 songs ripped great, with Accurate of 44, and then the error message for tracks 6-13 (the end of the cd).

    Any ideas what's going on here? Using XP to rip to two drives. dB v r13. Secure rip, C2 on (doesn't seem to make a diff. having it on or off), and the Cache checked. These cds are perfect, no damage at all. So I don't understand all these 'Unable to read cd' errors.

    Thanks,
    Chris

    You should never see unable to read CD unless the disc is seriously damaged (huge scratches or a whole on the disc...). Think about trying another CD drive.

      Thanks for the response Spoon,

      But great, I have only a cheap pc laptop instead of this pc desktop. And it took me forever getting the pc to rip to a networked HD. I hate to change machines, and I'm not sure the cd player in the pc is any better. Aargh this is aggravating.

        And now I'm also getting the error message on a reg. cd: AIFF: Error failed to create output file.{Dbencoder: BeginConversion}

        also a cd drive problem? I had this error earlier and had it fixed for 2 rips after getting the right local host name correct in the file sharing section of my G5/networked computer. Humm....

          Nothing to do with CD drive, just the output file cannot be written to.

            Yeah, weirdly, when I retried the unrippable again, it worked. Seems just a bit inconsistent.

            And on some, I'm getting both a accurate rip and another shows nothing but errors. The songs though are ripped to the correct folder. Is this normal?

            And Spoon, why sometimes the art work shows up while ripping, but the 500x500 jpeg doesn't make it to the album folder? I had to manually save it, and then move it into the correct folders (aiff and flac)

              Try ripping locally to Music, once that is working well look at if the ripping to network is causing problems.

                Ok, will try. But I see now looking more carefully, getting two reports b/c it's ripping to the hardwired drive fine in flac, but the error is that AIFF file output, isn't ripping onto that networked folder. Some are, 50% of all cds are making it correctly into the AIFF drive, the other 50% isn't....oh..I just realized why, the G5/AIFF drive is 'going to sleep mode'. Sheesh, stupid mistake

                However, the album artwork is still missing out on both drives when ripping goes correctly. Ideas Spoon?
