A LOT of noise when ripping on one of my laptops

    Hi

My new latop (HP) has problems to rip some CDs (not all). The symptom is a LOT of noise in the sound. You can hear the song, it is like hearing through a noisy telephone line.

My old laptop (Dell) has no problem to rip the same CD.

    Any ideas ?

I suspect copy protection could be the problem

How many CDs? (2 or 3 out of 200?)

Try ripping more, to find out if it common.

            Well I'm back :-)

            I will say the problem is on 1 out-of 20 CD's.

              Does AccurateRip verify those discs?

No, the CD's with noise all fail the Accurate test.

As my Dell is able to rip the same CD as fail on my new HP, I suspect the HP (hw or sw) is the problem.

Just funny that the data files ripped from the CD are not totally corrupt. I'm able to hear the sound, it is like played on a week AM radio station with a lot of noise.

                  Potentially a CD drive failure.

I have the same problem with 3 cd's out of 30. I Work with a Dell Inspiron 580 with Windows 7 (x64). The cd drive is a TSSTcorp TS-H653G. So my configuration is quit different compared with finnbrodersen. if this contiues this way 10% of my collection could not be ripped.

Maybe a coincidence, but all three albums are published by Warner music. Is there some copy protection involved?
