    A CD pressed with skips?

    I've been having some trouble with a CD I purchased recently. When it arrived, I immediately proceeded to rip its contents via EAC Secure Mode (My drive supports Accurate Stream and C2 Error Detection). I ripped using offset correction and had taken all of the necessary precautions in order to get a good rip.

    I was able to Accurately rip all of the tracks (confidence approx. 20 on each), so I figured there would be no issues with any of them. But upon listening back to one of the tracks, I noticed that there were a lot of noticeable skips in various places. I checked the state of the CD; there are no visible defects, scratches, or bits of dust on either side.

    Either the CD was pressed from the factory with those skips in the audio data, or 20 other people using accurate rip just so happened to have the same skips in the exact same places. Or something. But regardless, the entire reason I bought this new CD is because the old version I had was badly scratched and experiencing CD rot. It kind of pisses me off that the new version I bought evidently still has errors.

    Here's the CD in question;

    CD Rot would not verify accuraterip, you would have to try playing the CD on a normal CD player to see if the skips are present.

      I played the CD through my car CD player, my Xbox 360, and on my desktop. The skips were still present in each case, though they were less noticeable when played on the Xbox and car CD player. I've imported one of the problem tracks on 2 different computers; once in EAC secure mode on both computers, then once in Burst mode. Each time, it claims that I have an Accurate Rip, [confidence (approx.) 20].

      This CD was originally manufactured in late 2001. Do you think that it could be one of those CDs that was pressed with errors that would be truncated by normal CD players, but would cause computer rips to be sub-optimal? If so, Nettwerk Records just lost a lot of points with me. I did not re-purchase the CD just so I could be a victim to a stupid copy-protection scheme.
