First time rip, questions.

I have just created a profile etc and completed my first rip, but I have a question (which I am afraid is a bit basic).

In the rip status column for all of the tracks I ripped it has: "x AR" and a tick next to "Secure".

What does this mean? An article I read said that it should bring up Accurate Rip with the number concordant rips listed on the database in parentheses.

I also read something about drive offsets, but am not quite sure what this is about.

If anyone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

It means your disc is not in AccurateRip.

Not in the Accurate Rip database? In which case it tries to rip it 'Securely' right? Is the main difference that it just doesn't have anyone/anything to compare the rip to?

If is says 'Secure', as opposed to insecure, does this mean that it is a bit perfect copy?

Also, I have another database of music ripped by dbpoweramp. It was ripped by a friend for me.

Is there anyway to check the flac compression level on these? Can you change it without the original CD (they're in storage on the other side of the country)

Can you adjust the metadata?

Secure is where the ripper thinks it has ripped securely, but there can be consistent errors (that re-reading or c2 pointers do not detect).

You can convert Flac >> Flac to get which ever compression level you want.

Edit metadata by right click >> Edit ID Tag.

I batch converted about 6000 songs, but I didn't realise it wouldn't keep the folder architecture. Is there anyway to do this?

Another problem I have had a couple of times is when I have changed some metadata after ripping. At the moment, "Artist" is the first folder it organises everything to and then Album etc.

A few times it has put the composer as the Artist. When I go and change the metadata, it doesn't change the folder organisation or name etc. Is there anyway to get it to reshuffle the folders after I change this, or do I have to move it around myself?

Converting to a different drive? or folder path? then use the dynamic naming and: [origpath]\[origfilename]

To rename the filenames later you would have to use the [Arrange Audio] utility codec.

Dynamic naming...ahh yes, I see this now! Oh well, I'll start all over again.

Arrange Audio: so I download the codec and rename and rearrange through this, or do I rename separately and then it will rearrange everything?

Also, some of the Album art for some of my CDs is a little low quality (e.g. 12kb), if ever new Album art is released is there anyway to adjust the tags? Do you ever get inside the album cover as well, all the editors notes etc.

I seem to have quite a lot of music not in the AR database. Can you ever recheck Secure rips against the AR database if the CD eventually comes up in the database?

I also have quite a few reprints, which are part of classical compilations. It is quite common when a pianist, for instance, dies, one label (e.g. decca) might put all of the artist's decca recordings in one place box set. AR and the Meta searches get the info from the original print. All of the meta data is correct except the album art. Do you know if the new version of dbpoweramp will correct this?

You convert the track(s) to Arrange Audio and it renames them.

Right click >> Edit Tag to change the art work.

Try R14, it has AccurateRip2 which can check across pressings and a choose art button to get high resolution art. It is in the beta section of this forum.
