CD Ripper reports C2 support, EAC Denies

I have Compaq CRD-8484B CD-ROM. CD Ripper v13.4 says it has C2 Error Detection but rips jerky, skipping tracks when enabled, smooth and clean if disabled. EAC denies C2, so no problem. Am I making mistakes anywhere?

Yes, with the test CD described in the help, the Ripper prettily easily detects C2.

If it detected straight away then c2 might not be supported, try a detecting with a cd with no scratches, it should not detect c2 on that disc (or none for a long time when testing).

To follow up on this conversation, I just purchased a Plextor 880 external drive.
When I perform the C2 detection with a clean or damaged disc, it detected errors right away. I then re-ran the C2 detection immediately again with the clean disc and no errors were detected.

With every disc I attempt to rip, many of the tracks need to be re-ripped or they are classified as an error. If I disable C2 support, discs rip quickly and are verified with AccurateRip.

Is C2 not supported?

How critical is C2 pointers? I was hoping to upgrade my internal drive, but it seems I bought an expensive POS.

What is the option 8KB transfers (C2 pointers over USB/Firewire)?

It is an option you can try if c2 appears to not work (like yours does).

Spoon,

How important is the C2 support? Since the 880 doesn't seem to support it (even though it claims to), is there a configuration of CD Ripper to try to overcome this. Perhaps with Ultra Pass, slower drive speed, etc.

Or should I return this drive and find a better one?

C2 is an additional layer of protection, if your tracks are in AccurateRip then no problem, it is not required, but for those tracks not in AR it helps.
