    CD Drive questions

I'm a newbie to accurate ripping and have been perusing this and other sites at length. I just have a couple of questions that I can't seem to find the answer to.

    1. When talking about drive offsets, what exactly does this have to do with the process of ripping itself? If my drive has an offset of +667, do I change something in the ripping settings to tell it this?

    2. Can I find a list of recommended external USB drives from anyone?

    Thanks.

AccurateRip will automatically set the offset. It is needed to compare the results across different offset induced drives.

Thanks. Is there any disadvantage to external USB drives over internal drives? I heard that they tend to eat up a lot of CPU cycles, which can heat up the processor?

Not overly, you might find the advanced features of the drive do not function (such as c2 error pointers).
