320kps free format question

I was able to trial and error my way through my last post with this exception.

320kps mp3 under free format wont play in itunes or windows media. Should I stay with the 240kps vbr? Space isn't an issue... best quality and compatablity is what I'm after. I'm I doing something wrong on the free format?
I'm also proccesing a flac file in additon to the mp3.
