reference 13.3 will not rip CD in MP3

I purchased the $36 package (all inclusive) yet when I attempt to rip a CD using MP3 ("lame", which is the only MP3 format offered in the ripper window drop-down menu) it will not operate. A message window appears informing me that my "trial has expired". can anyone explain why my registration did not become effective for MPS but everything works fine when I rip using Apple lossless (MP4)??
