Is the AccurateRip database rip format dependant?

Sorry if this is a dumb question from a newbie.

Is the AccurateRip database check specific to the format you rip to?

Supposing the previous rips in the database were 12 to FLAC and 3 to ALAC. I now come along and rip to ALAC. Will my rip check return 15 matches or just 3?

    Many thanks

No, you always rip to WAV files first, and AR only applies to those. Conversion to a different format like FLAC, ALAC, MP3, etc. occurs after that step.

just to clarify a little, you may not necessarily rip to wave as your selected codec, but the audio is in wave format in memory as its ripped, and its this which is checked against AR, at which point its then written/encoded to the file format you've selected.

The simple answer is, AR is NOT format dependant.

That said, only LOSSLESS files can be re-checked after the rip (via tools like cue-tools), lossy file can never be re-checked against AR.
