    Which Plextor drive?

I have read on this forum that the Plextor PX-708A is a good general purpose ripping drive and that the PX-230A is good for problem discs. Can anyone share their experience with the 716A. Is it as good as the 708 for general purpose? How does it stack up against the 230 on problem discs?

    Thanks,
    Steve Redmyer

I think the 716 is on par with the 708, each perform better on different discs, but overall about the same. My experience with the 230 is not as strong as some report.

So what Plextor drive is recommended these days? I'm having trouble tracking down a new PX-708A or PX-230A (and ideally I'd like to find one of each).

Or is there a good place to buy them still?

        Re: Which Plextor drive?

There are no longer any REAL plextor drives being manufactured. In fact the 230 is not a real plextor.

not a good drive, not made by plextor, and I don't think its available any longer.

So what is the 230 really?

Was the 708A a real plextor?

              Who makes their drives now?

              Who do you recommend now?

There are a couple of sellers on EBay with NOS Plextor PX-230A drives. They are a bit pricey (in my mind anyway).

Search EBay for these item numbers:
                400041981938

                  Re: Which Plextor drive?

I have also a Plextor PX-830UF and as I far I know this one is made by Pioneer

Regarding the Plextor Premium 2, Spoon says on an other thread that it was a true plextor drive

                  http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthre...hlight=plextor

Personally I've found this one here without any problem.

                    Re: Which Plextor drive?

I use the Plextor 830UF which is a pioneer; Now, it performs adequately, the C2 seems pretty reliable, but it is finicky with some discs, and occasionally has trouble reading into lead out tracks, which my other Plextor, the 712UF, does not.
