Ripping Mono CD's to mono mp3

A couple weeks ago, I ripped The Beatles in Mono recordings using dbpoweramp CD ripper. To ensure the highest quality conversion, I chose VBR V0 "extreme" LAME conversion with slow (high quality) encoding and selected Mono for channels.

Was this the best mp3 conversion I could have chosen for mono? I see that in the properties of the files, the bit rate is around 120kbps. Is this normal for mono even though a stereo bit rate would be around 245kbps?

I'll be getting the Mono Beatles set and I am wondering the same thing. I always rip to mp3 using -V0 settings, but should I set it manually to Mono or leave it on Auto?
