    A couple of ripping queries

    Hi there,
I have setup dbpoweramp, with a plextor 712UF (I saw on these forums a while back it is considered a good drive for ripping). I was wondering one or two things - they're probably simple, but...

having correctly ID'd my drive, will cd ripper use (assuming I have checked the box) the C2 pointers facility? I only ask because I don't have a scratched CD for the purposes of allowing the application to test this itself. Of course, I know that my drive supports this, but does the program want to specifically test this before it uses said information with confidence, or is it automatic once the box is checked?

Second, I ripped a track and checked the output log. Despite to errors, my rip seems to disagree with (one) database example. The CRC32 listed for my CD is different to the AccurateRIP CRC. I was just curious to know specifically if there is a difference between these two types of CRC, and does AccurateRIP also log the drive types doing the ripping??

    Thanks for your answers,
    Pat

The CRC32 and AccurateRip CRC are two meant to be two different values, they are calculated differently.

Always do the test for c2, especially if connecting the drive through usb.

Re: A couple of ripping queries

          Hi again guys,
There was one other thing that occurred to me. I have a CD with a hairline surface imperfection (that is, it's visible at certain angles). I tried a c2 test on it (as its the only damaged CD I have). I didn't get any results with CD ripper, nor with Plextools (which detected a little C1, but no C2 or CU). I was wondering, is it possible for a visual defect not to cause any read error and therefore no c2 error?
          thanks again
          Pat

Get a CD single which is cheap and use a black marker to damage it.
