    HOW-TO: Virtual key CD images...

Am wanting to create an AccurateRip-like of a mixed-mode game CD as an image file. Problem is, I cannot use dbpoweramp nor EAC to rip a game CD. So I just use normal Alcohol 120% or CloneCD to create my mixed-mode image files. Then I mount the images and AccurateRip the virtual CD drives.

Problem is, I need key CDs to configure AccurateRip (for both EAC & dbpoweramp). How can I go about creating key CD images to configure AccurateRip? Would doing an Alcohol 120% or CloneCD via their Audio CD profiles be sufficient enough to create key CDs?

The problem is, whatever you rip to an image will have the offset of the drive it was ripped on, but the virtual drive technically HAS no offset. I'm pretty sure that you can't configure a virtual drive at all.

      Yes, that's strange isn't it.

Well am currently doing an experiment. I am using all sorts of imaging programs (eg. Alcoho, ClonCD, etc) and using their "Audio CD" profile and slowest reading speed (if optionable). Then I mount using Daemon Tools Adv. and then use EAC & dBpowerAmp to set the offset. Currently I found that Alcoho, PowerISO, & Daemon Tools Adv (create image function) all 3 produced images were recognised as key CDs to both dbpowerAmp & EAC. However CloneCD, BlindWrite, DiscJugglers' CD images were bad as in that dBpowerAmp & EAC both complained the CDs didn't match the AccurateRip online database values.

Anyway, I'll update/inform more results later.

Am using a recent/new laptop's DVD/CD drive since that seems to be the most stable compared to PC's drives..... to create images.

I have configured a virtual drive successfully, I made images (cue & wav with EAC) of 3 key cd's and mounted them one by one.
Can't remember if I had to rip the image with or without offset.

Don't use it any more, cause for checking cue + wav for accuracy (main purpose I used the virtual drive for) there's a better solution in Cuetools.

You say EAC can create images? (in cue & wav?) then what tool do you use to mount them? So ripping to image you were able to set an offset?... with EAC?

          Cuetools? Please enlighten me more

I have edited the above post because we cannot advocate such usage of AccurateRip - we spend many hours removing people who have mounted virtual drives and ripped with them (inevitably with the wrong offset), then submitted the results to AR, which are there as a 'trap' for anyone else who wants to key off those results.

OK, can understand the reasoning behind it.
Compared with cuetools it was a time consuming way to check images any way.
