Defective by Design ripping method

Hi,

In 'Options' you can choose 'Defective by Design' ripping method.
Now I was wondering: is that mode only used when you explicitly choose it there OR can dbpoweramp (I'm using reference version) detect that an audio CD is better ripped using 'Defective by Design' ripping method and switches automatically to that mode no matter what mode you have choosen in 'Options'?

Could you tell me when this mode is probably a good way to use?
What is written on such 'defective by design' CDs or how to recognize them?

If a an audio cd does not detect as an audio CD, then try Defective by Design.

as detected by windows explorer or dbpoweramp itself?

By dBpoweramp, or the track times could be way off.
