Windows Media 9 Lossless Does Not Play on WMP

I used the CD Ripper set to Windows Media Lossless but the result was a file I could not oplay with Windows Media Player (but could play on ITunes). Any idea why this would occur.

I didn't think that iTunes could play wma format. Any wma files that I add to it get converted to apple's format.
