Ripping limited to 3.9X

Hi. Is there a reason why I can only rip at 3.9X? However, if the ripper rips an inaccurate track then from that point on it flies, about 30X+.

I checked the PIO/DMA thing and that is not it.

I even tried the test conversion and rebooting and that wasn't it.

Any other ideas out there?

Often it is the CD drive which self selects its speed on the quality of the disc.
