Disk plays but does not rip?

I'm trying to rip Tool 10,000 Days and while dBpoweramp Ripper plays the audio of the disk fine, it's only able to rip the first five tracks. During the last half of the disk, Ripper slows down to .1x and makes very slow progress. I tried burst and secure modes and observe the same behavior. The odd thing is the audio of the disk sounds fine using the same program and drive that is having problems ripping the disk. Can manufacturers do something to mess up ripping? I tried all combination of the Defective by Design options with this CD and the ripping speed did not improve.

    Thank you.

It is likely it is down to the CD drive not liking that CD disc, either get a replacement disc (might be the same) or try using a different drive.

OK, I thought perhaps there might be some sort of copy protection afflicting the disk. It's reasonable that on the same drive the audio of a disk plays but ripping is not possible? Forgive my ignorance, is the data stream from the drive different when playing than when ripping? Thank you

Not really, you could also try manually setting x4 Speed, or slower.
