    CD Ripper: noticing inserted discs...

    Spoon,

Under what circumstances does the CD ripper itself automatically notice a disc is inserted in the currently selected drive?

Sometimes it does so, other times it does not (no matter how long I wait) and I must click the Retry button. This might be due to different windows configurations on different machines.

Is it supposed to be talking to the drive directly, or does it rely on any of the windows-related notifications such as Autoplay, Autorun or Auto Insert Notification? If another process happens to be monitoring the drive or talking to the drive (for a short time or at an inopportune time), what is the impact?

I'm writing some routines to automate the cd-ripper with robots (for some special tasks that the batch ripper doesn't cover), and in the short term, I just have the automating app click the retry button from time to time to work around the issue.

Just curious if you know what might be going on with the disc insert behavior.

It is Windows notification and we also poll the drive asking if a change has happened.

So, if windows notification is disabled or blocked...what would cause the drive to report no change has happened? Do all MMC drives correctly report on changes?

I have the same problem. On Windows XP - somethimes it does detect the disk sometimes it doesn't...

I think the new cd is only not noticed if dbpoweramp ejected the last cd after the rip...

This is easy reproducable... If I disable "Eject After Rip" it works everytime - else not.
If no file was ripped it also always works.

I am having a similar problem.

I inserted a classical music CD (the first disc I was going to try this program on) that none of the services (freeDB etc.) could find the metadata for. I tried to insert the data myself and clicked on a few of the default field names, but when I tried to get CD Ripper to "Refresh" it would not do so. I hit "Eject" and the CD was ejected just fine. But now, no matter what disc I insert the same 4 un-named tracks show up and I can't get the program to read any of my discs, even if I reboot my computer and start from scratch.

Insert a disc with different track count, does CD Ripper show the correct track count? make sure the meta data items AMG, GD3 , MusicBrainz and Freedb are selected (have the grey background).
