A Question of Size

I have recently installed dbpoweramp ripper and started to evaluate the product.
When comparing audio quality between the settings for WMA 9.2 Lossless, I noticed that the file sizes when using 24/96 are almost double the file size from the original file on the CD. Can someone explain how this is possible?

A CD is 44KHz, if 96KHz is more than double...
