    Tracks Secure, yet different results.

    Hello,

I have a Plextor Premium, Plextor PX-230A and a Pioneer 212 DVD drive.
Recently I ripped a secure CD with the PX-230A. The last track gives a different CRC to the same rip from the Premium and Pioneer drives.

I've tried turing off C2, FUA and still the PX-230A gives a different result.
In comparing the files, there are 241 missing samples from the 230a rip.

Is the drive faulty or something else wrong? I presume the Premium and Pioneer drives had the correct rip?

    Log files attached.

    Thanks

Probably the difference is how far the drive is reading into the lead-out.

But I am instructing DBpoweramp not to read into the lead-out at all. They all should be the same. Something is wrong.

Even if you ask not to read the lead in or out different offset drives give different results for the last or first track, only by reading the lead in and out will the result be the same.

So then which rip is accurate? Does not not mean most last tracks are ripped incorrectly? I thought if the missing samples are silence, it should be identical regardless of lead-in/out?

Note that there may be a difference between "silence" (which may contain some non-null samples of below hearing threshold noise) and "digital silence" (which contains only null samples).

I'm ducking the general question and leaving that to spoon because I get too confused about the interactions between lead-in/lead-out reading and + and - drive offsets.

That still does not answer my question. It seems it is very important to have a drive that can read into the leadin/out to get a 100% correct secure rip.

Which of my rips is the right one? Why are they not identical?

It is like reading a book, some of your drives can read from the very first page, others a few pages in, you cannot expect the results for the start and end of the book to be identical. The drive(s) which can overread are 100% correct, AR works around the drives which cannot overread by skipping the first 5 and last 5 frames.

So if you want identical rips, you need a drive that can read into the leadin/out. I do not understand why the tracks are not identical, condiering I told Dbpoweramp not to read into the leadin/out!
