    New SATA DVD-RW drive

I have a new Lite-On SATA DVD-RW in an AMD quad core computer.

When first used the drive to burn DVDs it stalled using Nero and CopyToDVD. It would not burn at all just using Windows XP built-in facility.

I switched the SATA cables from the DVD-ROM to the DVD-RW and both drives seem "okay" now.

However, when I run dBpoweramp 13.1, the disc continues to spin at high speed for about 15-20 secs after the rip to .flac has been completely encoded. When I have used dBpoweramp on similar IDE drives, the disc has spun down more quickly when the rip is complete, even prior to the encoding being complete.

Does having to switch the SATA cables ring any alarms for any of the experts on this forum?

    Thank you.

See CD Ripper >> Options >> Drive spin down time, 20 seconds is not much if you ask me.

If you had 15,000 discs to rip, you would be in a hurry too

        Re: New SATA DVD-RW drive

Today when using dBpoweramp to rip a CD, the disc completely ripped but the rip button stayed depressed on the application.

To stop the DVD-ROM that the disc was in, I had to click the rip button and OK to cancel the rip.

This occurred on the DVD-ROM drive on which I switched the SATA cables described in the posting above.

        Any thoughts now?

Am I looking at a motherboard problem or some other simpler issue?

For the record, XP's built-in burning only burns CDs, NOT DVDs.

Thanks! Writing a CD did work as you might have expected.
