Defective by design: question

Hi,

I just installed dbpoweramp reference R13 trial and I saw the new feature 'Defective by design'.
Is this new feature meant for ripping copy protected CDs or how do we, as end-user, have to look at this new feature?

Questions I would like to have an answer to are:

- when to enable that ripping method if you don't know what kind of CD you have? How to see if the CD is 1 of the 4 cases listed in Defective by design?

- does accuraterip work in combination with defective by design ripping method or is accuraterip completely disabled when ripping in that mode?

- are CDs ripped by defective by design ripping method ripped securely or is there no way to tell if those CDs are ripped securely or not?

The "Defective by design" is for copy-protected CDs, yes.
1. Either by seeing if the CD has a label on the case indicating some sort of "copy protection" or when what you are seeing in the ripper isn't right (impossible length for tracks, for example).
2 and 3. Not sure.

AccurateRip can not work with DbD.

3. Depends on protection employed.

Hi, I've tried with one of my marvellous copy protected cd :vmad:, no report is issued for knowing if this one has been ripped accurately or securely?
In fact I would like to know what is the best way for these kinds of cds for having the best ripped music?
In secure more or in defective by design

If the CD rips in secure mode and the rips sound fine, then by all means use Secure mode. DbD mode is only for copy-protected CDs that won't rip in secure mode due to the protection.

Yeah, if it works then why change it. I've got a couple of CDs marked "Copy Controlled" (got them, unmarked, by mail order, I actively boycott that garbage even when it's Iron Maiden), and to my surprise they seem to be ripped effordlessly with sometimes even reasonable AR score. Something's gotta be terribly wrong here :D

OK, so i'll do in secure mode. Sometimes on these copy control cds, tracks are ripped accuratly and sometimes not!

AccurateRip can work with DbD.

Why does it 'seem' then in the Options window of dbpoweramp you can choose
burst OR secure OR DbD ripping method, so no combination of some of them (it are radio buttons)?

So you have to look at those 3 things as this: burst (= no secure ripping at all), secure (= with secure ripping), DbD (= copy protection ripping + same secure ripping as 'Secure' ripping method), am I right?

Or is the secure ripping algorithm used in DbD not completely the same as the secure ripping algorithm used in 'Secure' ripping method?
