    Consistency of errors?

Having ripped quite a few CDs from my collection now, I have come across quite a few disks, where most tracks were flagged "Accurate", but some were just "Secure". I re-ripped those on two other drives and came up with the exact same results (and matching CRCs) - which made me wonder about the reproducibility of CD errors on different drives.

If there is a defect (scratch etc.) on a CD, that causes an error, will this error be consistent and reproducible between different drives? So, will I necessarily end up with the same results when re-ripping my CDs?

Also, from what I've been reading here about AccurateRip, it seems, that a "different pressing" produces non-matching CRCs for all tracks of an CD. Is it also possible, that only some tracks don't match, if the pressing is different (that is what I'm seeing for many of my CDs)? Or are above mentioned - potentially consistent - errors more the more likely cause?

It is thought that different drive models would not return the same errors.

It is difficult to say, you would have to post the drive models, wether c2 is being used, drive cache size.

That's actually very reassuring and makes me a lot more confident about the quality of my rips.

It makes me scratch my head about some of those AccurateRip results, though... (as stated above, I get quite a few "Secure" rips mixed in with "Accurate" ones - a lot of my CDs are older German pressings, though, that might not exactly match what is available in the US).

Below, I have posted the settings for all the drives I use (with the Sony (no. 2) usually being the most reliable of the bunch).

And what were the confidences shown on a rip where some were accurate and some were not?

Typically confidence is 2 (or sometimes 3).

Here's an example - the most peculiar so far - where "Accurate" vs "Secure" is around 50/50:

            Re: Consistency of errors?

A confidence of 2 is quite low and adds doubt to the validity in this instance, if it was 4 or 6 then there would be no doubt.
