    1st rip to MP3 - nothing but hiss/static

    Hello:

I'm doing my first rip w/ CD Ripper. I have DBC Reference R13 and I updated LAME to 3.98.

    I'm using the v2 option.

Ripping with EAC (latest version) & LAME 3.98 sounds perfect.

Ripping with CD Ripper is is a "staticy hiss" kind of sound. Full volume (playing in Winamp shows the vertical bars maxing out in the higher frequencies (rightmost 75% of the bars).

I tried to make my CD Ripper settings as close to EAC as I could figure out, but maybe I set something wrong.

    Help!

Rip to wave as a test, does that have the noise?

      Using any DSP effects?

Also, what do you mean by "updated LAME to 3.98"? dMC r13 already comes with LAME built-in.

I also forgot to mention that AccurateRip reported "accurate" and confidence of 13 for tracks 1-11 and 12 for track 12.

Also, I have the encoding set for "Slow (High Quality)."

Under options, I have it set for Secure (Ultra) and no C2 and communication is set for "SCSI Pass Through (STP)" which I think is the default. And, ripping at 4x, read into lead-in/lead-out is unchecked and AccurateRip is on and put the +30 offset for my PX-760A.

        Wave rips & plays fine.

No - the "box" is completely empty.

IIRC, dMC R13 comes with a version of 3.97. 3.98 came out a few weeks ago and is the currently recommended version by HydrogenAudio.org.

        I copied over lame_enc.dll & lame.exe into the Compression\Lame and encoder\mp3 (Lame) directories, respectively.

You need R13.1 (from the beta section), we had to change the code to accept 3.98

That's right, I was getting mixed up. dMC r13.1 (currently in beta) uses LAME 3.98. Also, they apparently changed some of the input code (stdin) in LAME in 3.98, so you need to use r13.1 to use LAME 3.98.

Upgrading to the beta fixed it. Thanks everyone!
