For some reason the meta-data is not refreshing when a new disc is inserted EVEN AFTER restarting the program

Putting a new/different disc in the drive, the meta-data would NOT change, and the number of tracks would not change. The program kept seeing one disc in the drive even though it had been removed. I shut down and restarted the ripper 3-4 times before it finally recognized that there was new/different disc in the drive.

Is there any chance you are running other software that installed a filter driver in the optical drive stack that is interfering with normal disc switch notifications (e.g. anydvd, virtual cd drive software, etc.)?

yes, and you are right, this could well be the cause, though even when trying to refresh manually or restart the program it was not working. This has not been a problem in the past.

I know that in the past I tried to be sneaky by installing AnyDVD onto a fully functioning PC-Inside DVD duplicator running winxp and the duplicator software (named, ironically, embedded.exe) stopped being able to properly recognize discs (non-protected DVDs, protected DVDs, blanks, CDs, whatever), so I uninstalled it.

I guess the problem protected me from my potentially dangerous ways.
