it's the NAIM software - as always...

Just some recommendations from my point of view:

1.) Try to develope and use a good name scheme for the inital ripping of your CDs. Rip to a lossless codec! Don't use something like offests for multidisc albums or manipulated tags like track names with integrated track numbers, just to heal the limitations of an application or player.

2.) Once you have ripped and tagged your CDs, you can setup a batch conversion to overcome the limits of applications like the NAIM one.

Is it possible to combine track number (the 101 etc track number) with the title of the track [track] + [title] to achieve this

To confirm, are you using Asset to serve files to the NAIM app?

I can't see Advanced Settings in Asset. I have general settings but not advanced. Help please.

I will use the highest settings available - lossless FLAC. If I don't use an offset how do I get an Opera with 5 cds into a single file or do you think it best to have it showing as 5 separate files? Could you let me have any examples of naming schemes please? Ive had this for months and not actually got any satisfaction at all and little music moved as I want to get the best information stored that I can.

Hey Paul,

I wouldn't recommend to rip a CD to one file or a set of n CDs to n separate files. Personally I use the following naming scheme:

[IFVALUE]album artist,[tags]album artist, - [],[IFCOMP]Compilations[][IF!COMP][artist][][]\[album]\[IFMULTI][disc]-[][track] [title]

So each track will result in a separate file named like this:

"Queen\News Of The World\01 We Will Rock You.flac"

In case of a multi CDs you get file names like:

"Queen\Live Killers\1-01 We Will Rock You.flac"
...
"Queen\Live Killers\2-01 Don't Stop Me Now.flac"

So all files of the set are in one folder, the leading number is the running number of the CD in the set, the second number is the track number of the actual CD, followed by the track name. So you can see at a glance the CD and track number. That naming scheme works even if you have more than 99 tracks on a CD.

And it doesn't matter for your track order if your player can read and manage tags or if it can only handle the file names. The order is the same.

The only thing you have to do is to keep an eye on the running and total disc number in the meta data before you rip.

Hello again

It worked but I had to rescan library for changes and/ or restart ASSET and then they came up perfectly. and all was well. Now! I'm back where I started and I think the problem is that ASSET isn't scanning or restarting when I click on the instruction to do so. Hours after clicking RESTART ASSET the screen is unchanged saying RESTARTING ASSET. I took a screen shot of the upnp settings to make sure that I knew what had to be checked so I know the settings look the same as when the tags worked.Any clues please? Re-install it?

I was so close to exactly what I wanted. I had added a few tags like genre etc and all was well. I was ready to start on a few hundred double disc sets!

To restart you can shutdown (a restart not hibernate) the computer / nas that asset is running on, then power on.

I have a similar question except it applies to music files that are already ripped.

In my case, I've decided to organize multiple CD sets from the current:

Bee Gees - The Ultimate (2009) [FLAC] CD1
01. You Should Be Dancing.flac
02. Stayin' Alive.flac
etc, etc

Bee Gees - The Ultimate (2009) [FLAC] CD2
01. How Deep is Your Love.flac
02. To Love Somebody.flac
etc, etc

to a single folder as:

Bee Gees - The Ultimate (2009) [FLAC]
101. You Should Be Dancing.flac
102. Stayin' Alive.flac
etc, etc
201. How Deep is Your Love.flac
202. To Love Somebody.flac
etc, etc

Are there any tools that will permit me to go into existing, music files and rename them on a batch basis? Tags don't need to be changed since they already show disc 1 and disc 2.
It's the actual folder/file renaming that needs to be done.

I've noodled around dbPoweramp Batch Converter but don't have the expertise to see an obvious solution.

Any ideas?
