Error initializing FLAC encoder. [Begin Conversion]

Hi,

I updated to the lastest dBPoweramp for Mac today and started converting a number of albums previously encoded in ALAC (.m4a) to FLAC uncompressed. Converted a few one album at a time without problems. Then proceeded to covert about 15 albums at once. Most finished converting however a few did not convert and I received the following message:

Error converting to FLAC, '/Volumes/Multimedia/Music/Booker, James/Classified/01 Classified.m4a' to '/Volumes/Multimedia/Music/Booker, James/Classified/01 Classified.flac'
Error initializing FLAC encoder. [BeginConversion]

for all files that didn't convert.

I tried converting a single album at a time and also closed dbPoweramp, rebotted my Mac and tried again. Same error message. Have also tried converting a few other albums beside the James Booker album...all the same result.

When failing, I see that dBPoweramp creates a flac file for each .m4a file but doesn't fully convert.

I successfully converted to wave so am not sure why all of a sudden I can't covert to flac.

Would appreciate any help so I can resume conversion. Thx.

Thanks for the bug report.
I made a special build of dBpoweramp that shows additional info (error code) in this exact case:

Please try it (can run from the .DMG, no need to install) and report what exact error message it produces - there should be an error code number after "Error initializing FLAC encoder".

Thx. Took sometime for the version you sent to see the files but it came through after a few minutes. Still not luck so help on this would be great.

Am I correct to assume that /Volumes/Multimedia/ is a network share?

Yes, it's a networks share. Have had not troubles with it in the past using dBPoweramp to rip CDs.

Will try the workaround tonight and let you know how it goes either ay.

Similar result however now it's also reporting that some other programs have some of the files open. I can assure you that all of my programs are closed. Just to be sure, I'll rerun and try a different album and post the results.

Please report what this one says (there should be more error lines this time). Also, does converting to local disk instead of the network share make any difference?

Still no luck...either saving to the NSAS or the local desktop.

Saving to same network drive/location as original .m4a files. Note that no files were created on the NAS drive this time. In the previous errors, something there would be 86k .flac files for each song.

I'm sorry but I'm still unable to figure this out... at least some of the potential causes (network shares, input data format) have been ruled out.

Does it make any difference if you convert to some other format (such as WAV or AIFF) instead of to FLAC directly?

I'll try another format, however do need FLAC at the end of the day so that Roon recognizes tags appropriately (and I don't have multiple file formats). Can I get the previous version of the prgoram to see if that works? In the meantime, what's the best way to share a file? The file is too large to be attached through the forum.

Since the failure started, it's always the same files. I tried a few other albums however am getting the same result. I started with artists in the "As" then moved to the "Bs". Some of the "B" albums were converted the first time but others weren't and the same ones won't convert. I've also tried another random album and received the same result:

Your files have particularly large tags. FLAC format is unable to handle such, causing encoding to fail. Additional logic has been added to drop problematic oversized tags, with a notice in information log.
