Batch Converter freezing + locking up machine

I've been using Batch Converter for a little while (about a year) without any issues. Occasionally I would get an album or two that it would error on, but it would continue with the rest of the job and I would just try to re-convert the failed tracks after that.

Recently however (about a month ago), it's started not fishing any jobs. Instead of just erroring on a track and going onto the next one, it will freeze completely. The most irritating part, is that when it freezes it seems to max out my cores. Within 2-3 minutes of Batch Converter freezing, the temperature will go up and the computer will freeze entirely and I'll have to do a 10-second-power-button reset.

I do most of my work from my local server, but I've tried to move big folders to the same computer as Batch Converter and it didn't help. I've also tried using it with and without plugins (I use volume normalization when converting flac to mp3), and that didn't make a difference either. On top of that, I actually did a completely fresh install of Windows 10 (and then a fresh install of Batch Converter), hoping that would fix it. No luck.

So at this point, Batch Converter is completely unusable for me.

Has anyone else seen this happen, and have any clues as to what might fix it?

This is a symptom of your computer being unreliable, it could be hardware or driver related.

Put another way, on a working system we could not design a program to do as you describe, even if we tried to.

I have exactly the same problem as described by Haverly.
My current solution is to immediatly pause conversion, and then select to use 3 cores (and not all 4), then start conversion again. This seems to work, It's a pity these settings are not remembered, or can be selected before batch conversion is started.
      I have a system on Windows 10, 1 year old. i5 with 16GB RAM.

Try adding the Multi-CPU Force DSP effect to your conversion and select Force Encoding to CPU1, CPU2 and CPU3.

Thanks for this tip. I have made this setting and will see what happens on the next conversion.

I've tried this. First from 4 to 3 cores, but this was not enough, dBpoweramp still froze my PC.
Then back from 3 to 2 cores. That seems to do the trick.

Interesting. Still, if your PC is locking up, that suggests it has a problem.

It is likely your CPU is overheating.
