You convert to [Replaygain]? where are the files held? how many files are you tagging?

Had the same a few months back with R15.3. Break it off and start again. Check windows event viewer as well for any errors.

That said, it helps when you provide more information. Are you on R16 or on R16.1? Also, how many tracks are you applying ReplayGain to, where are the located (local hdd, USB drive, NAS, etc.) and what are your chosen ReplayGain options?
