    WAV to FLAC conversion problem

In order to reduce the 2.24GB that a 96/24 .WAV version of the Beethoven 9th symphony occupies, I converted it to FLAC using the dBpoweramp Batch Converter. I was surprised to find that the resulting FLAC files totaled slightly larger than 2.24GB. For example, the first movement in .WAV is 539MB while the .FLAC of the same came to 540MB. I have no idea what I did wrong. I tried this several more times and the results were identical. I'll appreciate your help.

Which compression option did you have selected for flac? Level 5 (default)?

Re: WAV to FLAC conversion problem

I realize now that there are quite a few lossless options and I'm sure selecting "lossless uncompressed" was the wrong choice. I wonder why is there even a choice like that? Who would want to convert to Flac and not compress the size? Anyway it now worked with Level 5, and the .flac came to 58.7% of the original .wav size. I then tried to see the effect of the highest level, level 8, and the size was very slightly reduced to 58.5%.
      Thank you for your help.

Some people want uncompressed flac files.
