Automatically remove orphaned titles from the index

Asset UPnP recognises new files fine, but it does not seem to remove titles from the index after files have been deleted from the folder. Is there a way to "delete database, rescan all folders" via the Linux terminal / via contab?

Choose the rescan refresh all option.

is there a way to do this (rescan refresh all) from the terminal rather than from the browser?

As a refresh all is fairly intensive (the database is dropped and every file re-read) you would not want to do this on the cron tab.
