Metadata in the stream

1. When playing a track, control points usually display select metadata like Artist, Album, Title etc on the "Now Playing" screen. Is this "Now Playing" metadata mandatory (specified by UPnP) or decided by the server?


2. Are all tags preserved in the stream so the player itself could read them directly while/before playing a track, or are the FLAC's stripped from tags prior to streaming and only certain metadata sent in the stream?


3. Could you have any tag, eg. Producer or Soloists showing on the "Now Playing" screen if the control point/renderer supported it?

1. No such thing as now playing metadata, rather metadata which the control point can request at any time for any track. The control point decides which fields it shows.
2. Preserved if no transcoding.
3. There is no upnp standard to pass those tags.

Is there any possibility for a control point to - in addition to requesting tags from the server - also read tags directly from the FLAC stream, regardless of UPnP?

(If so you could have any tag, even custom tags, on the Now Playing screen)

You would have to ask the developer of the control point, it is possible, but none do as far as I know.

I would be happy to find a control point that supports this since I have some custom tags I'd like to display. But I'm probably hoping for too much here. (Anyone know of such a CP?)

Instead, if we stick to the tags supported by the UPnP standard, could you list them for me, please? Or point me to correct info on this, since I couldn't find it.

Today I was fiddling with Asset Control and the "Now Playing" display. Besides the default setting of Artist/Album/Title/Track you can configure it to also show Album Artist/Year/Genre/Composer/Conductor.

I tried (and also indexed) Style, Orchestra, Producer, Comment and many others but they didn't work out.

So, is this the complete list of supported tags by Asset Control for the "Now Playing" display?:

Track
Album
Artist
Album Artist
Year
Genre
Composer
Conductor


It would be very nice if I have missed any supported tags...
