    Track numbering

    Hi,

    Running on OSX 10.10.5 here.

I'm trying to turn off the automatic numbering of tracks by Asset. I've unchecked the "[track *] - [title]" option, which seems to have made no difference. Is there another setting I've missed somewhere?

    thanks

You refer to the actual filenames?

      Re: Track numbering

I mean the way they're displayed by the clients (Foobar2000 and a Roberts Stream 83i). The actual music files do have numeric prefixes - they're generated by iTunes, but the prefix wasn't displayed by Plex, or AFAICR other media servers.

(I have Asset set to use the iTunes Music folder - is there any reason I shouldn't be doing this?)

Displayed when browsing the tree? or when playing the track?

With Foobar2000, only when browsing; with the Roberts, both. (With a multi-disc album, the prefix plus padding takes up nearly half the display width on the Roberts.)

Another oddity on Foobar2000 is that sometimes both disc and track number are displayed for a single-disc album. I have a suspicion that iTunes is implicated in that, but haven't yet pinned it down.

So do I assume there's no way to prevent the track numbers from displaying?

Can you supply screenshots showing exactly where you are seeing the track numbers?

Only if I can figure out why I'm getting "Error *2038" when I try to upload an image... (It's under 100kb)

Ok, the site seems to have something against Firefox, but not Safari...

                  Here's the Roberts:

In the Foobar2000 screenshot, the first number is disc.track, the second, larger number is disc again, for some reason.

Make sure 'Multi Disk Albums Show as [disc][track] [title]' is unchecked.

                      Re: Track numbering

Ah, ok. The manual says "With this option checked each album would follow in the correct order in one album folder", and I took that to mean that unchecking it would display, say, a 3-disc album as three separate items in the album list. But it doesn't, so thanks, that's an improvement!

But is there no way to remove the numerical display completely?

Is this not an option you would select in the client software i.e. the foobar/Roberts apps?

Nothing I can see in Foobar's settings, and the Roberts is just a hardware device with practically no config options.

I mentioned earlier that the numeric prefixes aren't displayed by Plex; I don't know whether that's because Plex isn't a 'pure' UPnP server - might this be something that just isn't controllable within UPnP?

Ignore that bit - I was forgetting that the Roberts can only communicate with Plex over UPnP anyway...

Apologies for dragging out what may seem a trivial issue, but these generously-padded prefixes are a bit of a showstopper for my use of Asset (which in all other respects so far I like very much!), and I'm still unclear as to whether it's a server or client issue - or both - and if it is server-related, is it hard-coded?
