Well, after a week of daily database rescans, I can say that my experience with Asset has improved considerably. But I assume that daily rescans aren't necessary unless one's music library is modified frequently.
Btw, my impression is that editing the tags of items already in the library slows down navigation much more than adding a few new items to the library.
