    Creating genres for ripped music

As a complete novice to ripping / streaming, I have been OK with the procedure, but the Naim app does not show genres.
What procedure/ extra software do I need to achieve this.
( I did contact Naim, but they gave referred me to abd ripper / Qnap.)
Your help would be gratefully appreciated.

I think the naim app cannot show genres for the track playing, you can only degenerate when browsing your collection if choosing the genre tree item.

With Genre selected in the browsing tree, the Naim App will allow you to browse by genre. Definitely - I use it this way.

            Hi, thanks for your help.
I have just opened the ripper program, then the section that shows a list of options, clicked on genres and then default , then ok.the Naim app still does not show genres.
Please excuse my total ignorance in tech matters, but is this the correct procedure?

You can check your ripped files have a correct Genre, by right clicking on one of ripped tracks >> Edit ID Tags

              then look for Genre.

Have you enabled genres in the Browse Tree of Asset Server? The ripper is not the server; you will only see Genres in the Naim App if the server is sending that info. You need to tell Asset Server.

Sandy, I think that you're confusing (1) adding genre metadata when you rip, with (2) getting the Naim App to allow you to sort your music by genre, with (3) getting the Naim App to display genre info for an individual album or track.

You do (1) while you rip. (2) you do as I described above, by being sure that genre is selected in the Browse Tree of Asset Server in preferences. (3) I don't think you can do with the Naim App no matter what. Hope this helps!

I think you are right. I can see genres on the db ripper and on the Qnap files( when right clicked), but the Naim App continues to omit genre.
Guess I'll have to live with it.
Strange, when the music on my iPad has the full range of categories, including genre.

Re: Creating genres for ripped music

On one of my computers, I can use dBpowerAMP to rip tracks to the Christmas genre. The Christmas genre does NOT appear in the drop-down list on my other computer. Both computers are running the same version of dBpowerAMP. Any ideas what the problem is or is there a way to add items to the genre list? Thanks.

Christmas is a non-standard genre, you must have typed it, that box you can type any genre you want.

That may be the case when I ripped the tracks, but does not explain why when I right click on an existing track >> Edit ID Tags and check the genre drop-down list Christmas does not show up as an option. Not a big deal, just would like the tags to be consistent on both computers.

Once you have typed a custom value, it will appear in the program in the drop down list.

But obviously ONLY on the computer that was used to rip the CD...the custom value does not appear on other computers so there is no way to change the genre on the other tracks to maintain consistency.

Actually, that does not work either. I ripped a CD on Computer *2, set genre to Christmas, and after ripping, right clicked - Edit ID Tag on each resulting track and checked drop-down list for Christmas and it was not one of the options.

Is there any way to Add a custom genre to the Edit ID list of genres?
