Memory issues after upgrade to 2024-09-23 Windows

    Hello,

I'm a long time and satisfied user of the wonderful Asset UPnP and also developing DMR/DMC on embedded devices.
I recently upgrade my Windows 10 based system from 2023-05-15 to 2024-09-23 and run into serious issues related to memory. Over a period of one day all of my 16GiB memory installed on my media server was eaten up. As the Asset UPnP was the only update I recently done on that system I reverted back to 2023-05-15 and since then I don't observe any leaking.

    OS: Windows 10 22H2

    Best regards
    Michael

If you install the latest, then run it for the day, and bring up task manager, does it show that Asset is using that memory?

What is your player? do you have an LG tv?

If I bring up the task manager after one day I see that 99% of my memory is used but none of the process shown in the task manager are consuming a large part of the memory. So it's a tricky one I guess.

The problem also occurs even without using a player.

The player I use is based on platinum upnp with some open home extension.
I don't have nor use a LG tv
As control point I'm using Linn Kazoo and Upplay

If you end task Asset, does the memory recover?

          Thanks for the bug report.

Which running process is consuming the memory?
          Is it Asset-UPnP.exe or uMediaLibrary.exe ?
          Pictures from Task Manager welcome.

Please open Asset Configuration, General Settings / Settings Override (Control Point Specific) / Edit Override Values
Under right pane (known control points), what does it list?

I've ended 3 instances of Asset-UPnP.exe but memory was still used

If Asset is not in task manager then it is not possible for it to be taking up memory, it must be something else on your system.

As requested re-tested with version 2024-09-23. I've used Resource Monitor and in addition RamMap

There are hundreds of uMediaLibrary- processes visible in RamMap

                        Conclusion:
After disabling Asset all memory was released so this is, at least for me, a clear indication that Asset is responsible for consuming the memory.
After disabling Asset all those hundreds of uMediaLibrary- processes are gone

                        Closing notes:
I've downgraded to 2023-05-15 (which runs without consuming memory) and hope that we will have a fix for that issue soon.

That is the issue, there should be one uMediaLibrary process for each asset configuration, we will investigate why there are multiple

Thanks for the details, the problem has been identified and will be addressed in the next update.
In meanwhile, you can try hot fix-

Replace your uMediaLibrary.exe with the above file and the memory usage creep should be no more.
