Can't see contents of playlists on Win10 PC

I have Sonos speakers throughout my home, and my music library is stored on my Win10 PC. Sonos recently 'updated' its Controller app, and I no longer have access to my own music (the Sonos app now only supports streaming from the web). So I'm trying to find an alternate way to play my music on my Sonos speakers, using a different Android app.

The Hi-Fi Cast app is capable of seeing my music on my PC, and casting it to my Sonos speakers. But there can be large differences in song volume, so I would like to use Asset as my media server, because of its ability to apply ReplayGain.

When I use the Hi-Fi Cast app and select Asset UPnP as the music source, I see all the music and playlists on my PC. I see Albums, Artists, etc and can play music that I manually select. But when I try to add a Playlist to the Queue, it says "No songs added". It appears that it can see the playlist files, but no the contents of the files. I have tried various edits of the files, but nothing has helped. I've tried relative file paths and absolute file paths. I've pasted a few lines from a playlist below, so you can see the format (the playlists are located in a Playlist folder at the same level as the Artist folders). What am I doing wrong? And thanks for your help!

If you select the playlist first, then 'Add to queue' from the subsequent screen it works.
It looks like some kind of incompatibility with Hi-Fi Cast and AssetUPnP, as BubbleUPnP works with AssetUPnP and Hi-Fi Cast works with MinimServer, so there's probably something to investigate here.

I did notice that AssetUPnP prefers the \ folder separator as otherwise it doesn't pull metadata from the track and instead relies on metadata from the m3u/m3u8 (which I don't like to do).

Sonos should work with a samba share from Windows as long as it's not v1, not that I'm suggesting you use the Sonos indexing as I've had a few Play One's since they came out and have been using them with UPnP ever since.

BubbleUPnP is also worth a look, especially when paired with BubbleUPnP Server so you can access the queue from mutiple devices.

You can also use your SONOS players with LMS (formerly Logitech Music Sever, now Lyrion Music Server). It is now an open source community supported music server system. I've used this for almost 20 years and it only gets better. With LMS (which can run on any computer, but I run on an rPi4B, with piCorePlayer as the OS) it is mostly plug and play and very stable. For playing to SONOS you need to install the UPNP Plugin.

Hi simbun. Thanks for your reply.

That didn't work for me. It still said "no songs found".

That's it! I changed the separators in the playlist files, and now the songs are playable. Thank you! I know I had tried using the \ folder separator in one of my iterations of edits, but it must have been in combination with something else that made it not work.

I downloaded BubbleUPnP, and I like it. It works on both of my tablets (in different rooms) at the same time, while Hi-Fi Cast did not. So thanks for that suggestion.

I tried LMS a few months ago - it wouldn't have been for local media as I prefer the flexibility that a good UPnP server offers - but had intermittent problems with my Play 1's. I never did get to the bottom of it (although I didn't spend much time on it as they "just worked" in a UPnP environment), but I've just noticed that someone else has reported exactly the same thing on the LMS forums recently.

I'm sure it's fine when it works, but if it doesn't then you're in the weeds real quick.

In BubbleUPnP, and Hi-Fi Cast too for that matter, make sure you enable the following settings for your Sonos speakers (click on the vertical ellipsis next to the speakers):
              • Gapless control
              • Use eventing
If you ever decide to use BubbleUPnP Server eventing can be enabled in the configuration.xml with:
              Code:
              <openHomeUseEventing>true</openHomeUseEventing>
