    puzzled

I've just installed Asset UPnp premium on my laptop (running Windows 7) after using the trial version for a while.

Now, the trial version failed to pick up all of the ripped CDs from my music folder (i.e. the folder on the laptop) but I put this down to limited functionality. However, having installed the premium version I still have the same problem. Asset 'sees' 39 albums but there are many more than that and I'm wondering why these are 'invisible'. Can anyone help to shed any light on the problem?

Apologies in advance if this issue has already been addressed somewhere on this form but I have looked around and failed to find anything relevant.

All the audio is stored on the laptop in .wav format: some visible, some not!

Perhaps they have no id tags, try browse with Advanced Search >> File and Folder browsing

        are they listed there?

Yes, they are indeed listed there. Curiouser and curiouser...

Presumably this means (1) they do have id tags and (2) Asset can 'see' them but is unwilling/unable to pass them on to the 'renderer' (a Cyrus Streamline2 incidentally)?

No, the fact that they are there with file/folder browsing does NOT mean that they "do have ID tags". They can show up under file/folder browsing with or without tags.

Ah. Is there anything I can try to 'lift the blindfold'?

Much appreciate your assistance by the way. It's so frustrating not to have full functionality!

I'm not an asset user so can't help much, but the problem here is likely the lack of tags in the WAV files that are "missing" rather than an issue in ASSET. Wav files don't have a standard tagging method (and in many cases don't have any tags) and different rippers/converters try to add wav tags in many different formats. Were the 'missing' wav files ripped/converted/tagged with a different program than the ones that show up? I suspect they were.

(as an aside, this is one of several reasons why FLAC files or other lossless files are a much better answer than wav files. All are lossess bit perfect representation of CD, but have standard tagging methods, built in integrity checks to make sure the file hasn't become corrupted, etc.)

No, all the CDs were ripped using CDex, losslessly as I had imagined (and the file size supports this view) but as an experiment I've just re-ripped a 'missing' album using dBpoweramp and Asset finds the FLAC file straightaway. So, it looks like a bit of re-ripping is in order! My Synology NAS has just arrived so I'll move the 'findable' items and add the others.

Once again, many thanks for your thoughts. Once I start exploring the full functionality of dBpoweramp I might need to call upon you for more!

this is a good forum for help. Before you do too much ripping, do some thinking and testing about the naming string for naming your files and organizing your folders and subfolders. Also with various tags. A bit of trial and error and try different type CDs (regular, multidisk, compilation CDs, etc.) to get a feel for it.

install dbpa. Look at EVERY SINGLE option, setting, etc. so you get an idea of what's where. This means the config program, the ripper program (and in that look at OPTIONS, both drop down arrow next to options and the options button itself). the "naming" string is located on the ripper page, lower left side. Click on Set next to it and you can edit. I use this naming string:
                        [IFCOMP]Compilations\[album] [IFMULTI] \Disc [disc][]\[track]-[title]-[artist][][IF!COMP][IFVALUE]album artist,[album artist],[artist][]\[album][IFMULTI] \Disc [disc][]\[track]-[title][]
                        Review all these links:

And then don't be afraid to play around with things, try things out, see what the result is and seeing if it is what you want/expect. Once you have specific questions, post them here (and start a new thread with good specific subject lines: no one knows what you mean with "puzzled"....a subject line should be specific enough that someone might know what the question is about. For example, this one should have been: "Ripped WAV files not showing up in Asset".

In my opinion, learning how to rip/organize is a learn by doing exercise. And when you get stuck, the forum can help. Another bit of advice. Think about something like FLAC or Apple Lossless (if you use apple players) for ripping your CDs to digital format. WAV is problematic for several reasons. Don't believe what you read on the internet that somehow WAV is "more lossless" or "sounds better" than any other LOSSLESS format. Lossless is lossless!

I've just seen this thread & have a similar problem in that certain albums don't show up in Asset. I think I've narrowed these down to albums in HD on DVD-A discs that I've ripped using DVD Audio Extractor which has converted them to AIFF and then I've imported them into my iTunes library.

Now I haven't a clue how to add the necessary information to make these files appear in Asset. Advice gratefully received, and being old and a bit senile I'd appreciate assistance to be simple...

Do these AIFF files contain any metadata?
