Asset On QNAP HS251 Not Finding All Music.

A strange problem; I have two Premium Registered versions of Asset, one on my iMac and recently another on my QNAP. The music on the iMac is stored via iTunes, each artist having a separate folder containing their albums. This version of Asset finds all the music, 11256 tracks, 948 albums. I uploaded the entire iTunes library to the QNAP and, apart from a glitch when Asset wouldn't discover any music, it appeared to find it OK after help from Mr Spoon's beta version. However, I've just noticed that it's only discovered 2587 tracks/214 albums.

I cannot see any reason for this. I've selected the correct path, and the music's all been originally added in the same way via iTunes. Anything I can try please?

Which version of Asset do you have on the QNAP?

      Hi Mr Spoon, it's 4.4.

Is there anything in common with the tracks missing? ie they are all a certain audio type?

Yes, all pretty much AIFF files, a smattering of MP3s and ALACs. I'll need to have a more detailed look but there really doesn't seem to be any common factor. Weird... I've not altered the Asset setup from when I downloaded it, just put in the search folders.

OK, now here's a funny thing. I've only just realised that Asset is only adding (with one exception) artists albums from the letter T to Z. The reason I didn't notice this before is because I'm used to using iTunes which ignores "The" at the start of the name. I've just added Twonky and that's done the same thing, so it's obviously not to do with Asset. But if anyone's got a clue why this should be so, I'd be grateful!

Perhaps a permissions issue, ie Asset does not have permissions to access the other files.

I don't think that's it Mr Spoon, I think it's something to do with the QNAP's importing method. The file structure of iTunes nests albums into seperate folders & for some reason the folders for each artist have uploaded, but those from A to R are empty, yet those from T to Z are correctly populated with the individual tracks.
I'll ask over on the QNAP forum.

OK, an update that others might find useful.

Phil Harris, one of Naim's IT guys, solved it. He took the reins of my iMac remotely & rather than uploading from the QNAP's admin, he opened the music folders on both the QNAP and the HD attached to the iMac where my music's stored and did a paste - copy. I didn't consider this but hey, who cares? It worked. I still don't understand why some of the files copied OK, but over the years I've come to accept 'puters do strange things beyond the understanding of Man.

A bug on the QNAP - I've posted on their forum.
