Basic info about functionality of this product...

The forum lists this info about the product: "DLNA Server".

I'm not technically minded but at the moment that probably doesn't sound like the kind of use I need.

Just wondering if there are other reasons to get this product. I.e. what can it do it for me apart from network type
    functions, if anything at all?

Maybe once I set up my NAS, this product will become useful to me?

It is a network UPnP DLNA server, nothing more.

I don't know. Just thought if people mentioned the kinds of things that this product can do, I might like the
sound of one of them and perhaps want to get the product for that reason.

With streaming, for music, is it lossless quality?

One thing that may interest me...playing video content from my PC to my TV. I'd be looking at 720p to 1080 quality video.
That's the kind of thing that this product can do?
What about privacy issues? E.g. loads of websites have intrusive and invasive privacy settings...any way to avoid that?

Streaming is lossless if the source is lossless. Video is not supported though.

There are no privacy issues. I get no junk mail, etc. related to being an illustrate customer. Re "websites with intrusive things", there is reallly nothing about this program that is a "website" other than the user forum. Rather, you buy the program, install it on your own system. This is not a "cloud based, web based" music streaming service like Spotify or Pandora.

The Asset UpnP program is about STREAMING your *audio* digital library to network music players you may have (that use the DLNA/UpnP approach). It streams your own music (which can be lossless or lossy) and can stream internet radio, etc. (which could be lossless or lossy, but that's up to the source, not Asset UpnP).

The other main program is dbpoweramp converter/ripper. The dbpa program is primarily about the user ripping his/her own audio CDs to turn into digital files that can be played. They can be ripped to lossless (flac, etc.) or lossy (mp3 etc.). The ripping program can also automatically add metadata (song titles, album name, artist, album artwork, etc.) to your digital files. dbpa can also convert from one format to another (e.g., from FLAC to mp3 for use on portable players).

OK but without a document that defines capabilities and limitations, it is hard to know how it will handle multichannel, ISO, DSD, etc..

R5 will support DSD, iso not supported, multi-channel is supported.
