Does Asset UPnP need additional app to create playlists using an iPad?

Hi, I'm new here and don't really now what I am talking about.
I have A Sonos streamer connected to my HiFi and stream from a WD Mycloud NAS drive (Twonky). Everything works fine (apart from occasional dropouts at the iPad). It is great for creating queues and playlists etc.
I have now bought A Cyrus Stream X2 signature with N-remote and use the cadence streaming app on the iPad. It would appear that I cannot create playlists/queues unless I am missing something.
Am I correct in thinking I need a program like Asset to create playlists/queues? But also do I need an app or something installed on my iPad to also create playlists/queues and the like?
If so what would be good to work with Asset?

Try Kinsky or plug player on the iPad.

Thanks very much. Do I understand correctly then, does Asset replace Twonky on the WD Mycloud, therefore giving greater flexibility in creating playlists and/or queues?

Asset will not install on a WD Mycloud. Asset should be better at browsing the music, playlists are not handled by the server, rather the control point.

Sonos is not compatible with either Twonky or Asset UPnP. It streams music from your WDMC via SMB/CIFS (network shares).

This one is different from Sonos; it does use DLNA/UPnP, so it can stream music from Twonky or Asset.

I also have a WDMC and I've tested both Twonky (which is bundled with WDMC) and Asset UPnP.

Twonky is an OK multimedia server (music, photos, videos). On the positive side, it can be remotely configured via its web interface, and -- if you're willing to delve into editing XML files via SSH -- it can be customised. But I find its navtrees impractical for a large (say, >10k tracks) music collection, especially for classical music.

Asset serves only music (no photos or videos), and it's much better designed for navigation than Twonky. But, as Da Man said, it cannot be installed on a WDMC.

So I now use WDMC as file server for my LAN, plus media server (via SMB or Twonky) for photos and videos and some background music. (Lately, whether I watch a video on the TV or the iPad, I find I use SMB/CIFS more often than Twonky.)

For proper music listening, I set up a superannuated laptop running Asset under Win 7 to serve music from a USB drive. Not only is Asset better designed for this, but the laptop is faster than the WDMC, and that does make a difference when navigating a large music library.

Right. Gotcha (I think). So with my current set up, I can't use Asset. But i do need something like Asset if I decide to use a PC or laptop as a server if I need the extra speed if I have a very large number of files. I think I only have about 4500 files at the moment, but it is slowly increasing.
