Album covers not showing for compilation artists at first level of Artist/Album

    Hi

As above. If I select Artist/Album, then a letter, the only album covers displaying are those who have their 'own' albums.
Any artists appearing on compilations don't get any artwork until I click on the artist's name and show their albums.
This happens using Kinsky on both iPad and PC. Is this correct? I'm sure this didn't happen with 4.1.

This is correct now, the upstream art does not use compilation artists, we received many many complaints about this.

Ok that's fine - so long as that's the way it's meant to work. It'd be nice to have a toggle though as I rather like a full page of art! :-)

      Thanks for the quick reply

        Hi,
I don't believe that this is ideal behaviour for upstream artwork either, as it is a matter of the search order for the selection of the upstream artwork, as I too, want a full page of art for Artist / Album & Album Artist / Album.

The original issue was that upstream artwork was finding the artist as part of compilations first, and using the album artwork of the compilation album for that artist, as the upstream artwork, over any of the Artists own albums.

So if Madonna was in Now 51 & you had her own albums, the upstream artwork for a Madonna would be the album artwork for Now 51, over any of Madonna's own albums, which wasn't correct. BTW I solved this by finding all of these instances and replacing the Compliation Album Artwork with the artwork for the individual track in the compliation album.

As such, I believe the ideal search behaviour to be:

When Asset scans a library it selects the Upstream artwork for an artist against non-compilation albums first, then if not found, against the Compilation albums.
This means that the artists own albums are given preference & only if an artist is only represented in a compliation album is that artwork selected for that artist.

Alternatively allow the upstream artwork database to be editable & persistant over a full scan of the media. Perhaps with an additional 'clear & rescan upstream image database' option. This means the user could check which artwork was being used for each artist & if they wished change it to a different artwork. They could also upload different pictures for the artist, if they wished, independent of album based artwork. So for example you could upload a press photograph of U2, taken from the internet or your own picture taken at a concert, over one of their album artwork so this is at the Artist / Album view, but then when you click down to albums you still have all the album artwork of the individual albums.
Now this would make Asset totally kickass & very differentiated, with the ability to personalise the upstream artwork for your music collection.

For example this is Bryan Ferry at the National Concert Hall in Dublin, last month. Click image for larger version

Willing to put together a requirements document describing this behaviour, if you wish, and work with you on releases to get this functionality in place for Asset.

Guess I should have seen this:-

"upstream art does not use compilation albums, or artists who were contributing"

...in the version 4.2 release notes!

          I'll probably go back to 4.1 as it's a 'feature' I like.
