    Playliats

    Hi

I have recently set up Asset on a new QNAP nas. Everything has worked fine until I came to Playlists.
My set up is as follows.

Created a Folder in Multimedia Called Music Store. All my ripped CDs are in this folder in wav format.
There is also a folder named Samples in which some sample tracks are stored as supplied with the nas.

All the music in these two folders work perfectly using naim nstream All albums/artists/ tracks and artwork perfect.

I have now added another folder to Multimedia called Playlists.

Ihave configured Asset as follows. Watched Media Folders. /share/multimedia/

    Watched Playlist Folders. /share/multimedia/playlists/

I have now created a play list using iTunes and exported it in m3u format to the playlists folder on the nas.

When I go into nstream and select playlists the created playlist is displayed and when I select the playlist all tracks are displayed correctly..

However when I select a track and select play the nstream states that ii cannot play this track, and that applies to all tracks.

What could be the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Re: Playliats

The issue is how the playlist lists the tracks, because you would need the files to be referenced as:

    /share/Multimedia/

    inside the playlist.

        What created the playlists?

because if you create them on a PC the location will be the files as seen by the PC.

The playlists were created on a pc using itunes then exporting to the qnap multimedia playlist folder as an m3u playlist. As I understand it you cannot create custom playlists on qnap Asset. I think I understand that the problem is that the playlist when tracks are selected cannot find them even though they are in the qnap multimedia/Music store folder which I created. I cannot understand why they cannot be found.

            Re: Playliats

open one of these m3u files. they are just text files. You'll likely see that the file location in front of the file name is a bit different from what the qnap needs to see. You can fix this (when you find what the qnap needs to see as prefix) by using a "find and replace" within the text file.

edit: when you created the m3u file on itunes, were the songs on the playlist located in the qnap music folder already? That is, the files are in the same place? Even if true, it may be that in itunes/pc you're qnap folder is mapped as a letter drive within windows, but in qnap itself, it needs the actual reference

            that is, instead of:

            e:\filename

            it is
            \\192.168.1.XX\files\filename....
(where 192.168.1.xx is the IP address of your qnap????

Thank you garym for your reply. I think I understand what you are saying. You say open one of the m3u files.i assume that I should then be presented with text regarding the tracks. However when I right click and select open on one of these files in the qnap playlist folder I do not get any text information. Am I doing something wrong here.

              Thanks

Not clear. Are you opening the m3u file with a text editor program. Any will do. And you are not doing this within asset. Just go to a file explorer (windows etc) and upen one of the m3u files with a text editor.

Thanks again garym. I have now opened one of the m3u files in notepad. You were correct the path to each track was to my pc.. Using notepad I edited a couple of track. The path is now as follows using one of the tracks as an examples.
                  \\192.168.0.60\Multimedia\Music-Store\Chet Atkins\Stay Tuned\01 Chet Atkins - Sunrise.wav

Music- Store is where all the ripped music is stored on the qnap. I have checked all spellings and numbers and the are correct. The part of the path I edited is from the beginning up to Music-Store. The rest is as it was.
There is a line above the path I have shown which reads. *EXTINF : 251,01 Chet Atkins - Sunrise - I am not if has any relevance.

The problem is that these edited tracks although listed will still not play using naim I stream. Have you any further ideas.

                  Thanks

that's progress. But I have no other ideas. I don't use a QNAP or a NaIM (or even ASSET) so not much help with those in particular. My only contribution was pointing out that your playlist files probably didn't contain the correct file reference, which you've confirmed. Good luck.

This is the external path, you need the internal path, if you look at the Asset configuration page you will see something like:

                        /share/Multimedia/

                        as the library location

                        so replace:

                        /share/Multimedia/Music-Store/Chet Atkins/Stay Tuned/01 Chet Atkins - Sunrise.wav

note the forward slashes, the program you created the playlist was Windows which uses \, linux uses /

You were absolutely correct. The playlist was created from tracks on my pc and therefore carried the windows path. By opening the m3u file in notepad I was able to edit the path to exactly as you have listed.this has solved the problem. Thank you.
It is however a lengthy process to edit a long playlist. Is there any way of using the tracks on the qnap to create a m3u playlist. I have been unable to find one.

                          Thanks

a playlist with even thousands of tracks should take only a few seconds to edit. open the playlist and do a find and replace. Let's say the tracks look something like this:

                            d:\music\Chet Atkins\Stay Tuned\01 Chet Atkins - Sunrise.wav

do a find and replace, finding "d:\music\" and replacing it with "/share/Multimeida/Music-store/"
you may then need to search for any "\" and replace with "/"

This will automatically fix all the track listings. Play around with this a bit....

It seems I spoke to soon. Following your reply yesterday I edited a couple of tracks and they played ok. I have now edited the whole playlist in notepad using the procedure you supplied. As you say done in a few seconds, thanks for that. I do however do have a problem. When I look at the playlist on my istream half the tracks are listed in a randem order with artwork, but not the correct artwork, these tracks will not play. The other half are listed in alphabetical groups correctly with the correct artwork. These tracks will play ok. I changed the asset configuration by removing A to Z listing in playlists. This has made no difference. The playlist contains about 70 track. Have you any idea what may causing the problem. I have checked the editing and everything is as it should be.

                              Thanks
