Asset won't see some folders/files? HELP

I'm currently running version 4.1 (premium registered), on a Windows 7 PC & using a Sangean DDR-63 media player for playback via WiFi in my house.

I have ripped my entire music collection in FLAC format to a drive attached to my computer (Drive letter is :J, computer runs 24/7, multiple users - running Asset as service). Files are stored in seperate folders per album/artist.

Asset won't see my CD collection folder or any of the subfolders of files contained in it. I also have a seperate folder/subfolder used for spoken word audio (ripped in MP3 format rather than FLAC in this case), which resides on the same drive right alongside my music collection and Asset sees it no problem.

There is nothing selected under "Exclude Audio Types" in Asset, as I want them all recognized. Asset lists 335 tracks & 31 albums - which is exactly what the spoken word folder contains. There should be an additional 150 albums or so with their respected tracks listed however which aren't there.

This was working just perfectly for a number of months until one day my music colledtion dissapeared and only the spoken word material remained listed within Asset.

    Interesting points:

    - I keep MP3 copies of these same albums as well (in a separate folder in the same location with exactly the same folder/album/artist structure), and when I tried to point Asset at this folder just to see if it would work it didn't work either.

    - I have no problem navigating to the folders in question and pointing asset to them, it just doesn't seem to recognize that there are tracks in them.

    - I tried running asset under a local account just to see if it would help, but didn't make a difference.

    - I tried completely uninstalling Asset and re-installing & configuring from scratch but it didn't help. Nothing has changed in my setup at all - same computer, same drives, same media player, same location in the house for both and file locations/folder structure hasn't been touched, same connectivity and passwords etc.

Can't seem to figure this one out. Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    TFC

In Asset Configuration select 'Refresh All', does it count the right number of tracks when scanning? (on that page)

No, it says "scanning library" in the Asset Configuration window and counts up through to 335 (which are the spoken word tracks I was talking about earlier), that's it.

While it counts it shows the "Rescanning Shortly... (Refreshing Library)" message window.

Do you have any security software which might be blocking Asset?

I'm running Microsoft Security Essentials on the recommended settings (no customizations), which is updating daily.

I just tried turning it off and "refreshing all" in Asset, no change.

No. Everything I am running is stock Windows 7. That being said, Windows Defender (anti-malware) is turned off. I have no anti-phishing software present.

What happens if you browse with Advanced Search >> File and Folder Browsing
                are the folders listed there?

If you mean when I do a search from the windows start menu where it says "search programs and files", no the folders don't show up. Interesting point!

Is that what you were asking?

Rather in Asset browse tree, there is Advanced Search in the root.

Apologies if I've skipped/missed something, but do your ripped files have tags? What did you use to rip your music? When I've had similar problems it's always been down to tagging.

If you want to check the tags, use MP3Tag. It could be worth quickly trying another server (ie Minim, which is free) just to see if that sees your files; if it does you know Asset is somehow being prevented from seeing the files; if it doesn't, then there's an issue locally, but nothing to do with the server software.

                      Mick

EDIT Ah, sorry, just seen that your collection used to be fine. However, my suggestion of trying a different server still stands.

I see where you're talking about now, but no, all I see listed is the data I can use to search files (album artist etc...). I don't see any of my own folders there.

I can navigate to them under "audio library" and point Asset in the right direction though.

Not sure I'm entirely clear on what you're asking, sorry.

Excellent suggestion, I'll try Minim when I get some time.

These are all files I ripped myself using dBPoweramp, I use the rips all the time in my truck and mp3 player, no issues with the id3 tags in anything else. I've ripped 'em to both FLAC and 320 mp3 files at the same time, the program doesn't see either one of them.

I've ripped some spoken word stuff in the last couple of days though and Asset sees it (added it automatically as it should) along with all the rest of my spoken word files, which it has all along.

Okay, just installed and configured Minim & it works fine.

I've got a number of folders with audio material (in either FLAC or MP3), so I pointed Minim at the same folders I want Asset to see, restarted Minim and now I see over three thousand files, as expected.

I just discovered another problem this morning that I believe is related to this one. Please see the thread that I just posted in CD Ripper for complete info (it's there just yet but will be as soon as it's approved).

The gist of it is that dBpoweramp refused to rip CDs to the same folders I can't seem to get Asset to read from... This is driving me nuts!
