Assett server with Mac and Oppo 105

Hi. I follwed the instructions and installed Crossover and then Assett for Windows on my Mac Mini, got it to work after a while. But it still skips many Apple Lossless files for no apparent reason. It's set to transcode them to PCM and it seems to (icon on the Oppo says PCM). There's no apparent difference between the ALAC files it plays and the ones it skips on the same album. I'm setting it to transcode ALAC to LPCM.

Any ideas?

Can anything play the ALAC files? they might be corrupted?

They play fine on my computer (iTunes), Apple TV and iPods.

Is wireless used anywhere from Asset to player? does it skip at the same point every time?

All wired. It varies a little. Sometimes a file will play, then other times it'll be skipped.

It is likely to be network related if it sometimes works, and sometimes not. If it was software related (ie a bug) it would be consistent.

Hmm. It's only ALAC files that have problems and all music plays perfectly on Apple TV. If it was a network problem, wouldn't it affect more than one type of file on one device? Seems like a transcoding problem, maybe?

If sent as LPCM then the files are 2x larger than normal (than say a FLAC file), it is possible for a network to always play flac, but not uncompressed.

ok. I don't understand. The ALAC (Apple Lossless) files won't play reliably on the Oppo. Flacs play fine. Are you saying that the Apple Lossless files are too big to be transcoded to LPCM? Aren't they the same size as Flac?

When they are transcoded to LPCM they are uncompressed, so the amount of data flowing down the network is 2x bigger than for a FLAC file.

Try the native mac version of Asset which is in the beta section of this forum.

I don't understand why it won't play flac files that it plays from a hd. No matter how I set it..
