    Transcoding via shared network drives/folders

I run Asset on a Windows 7 PC, but have it reference files stored in shared folders on a Synology NAS. Presumably, if I don't have any transcoding options set, then Asset is simply directing what file the NAS should send to my renderer, and that file is sent straight from the NAS to the renderer. But if I do want to enable some transcoding, where would the transcoding take place? In other words, does the file go to Asset for transcoding and then back to the NAS for delivery to the renderer, which I'm trying to avoid as that would require the file to be sent wirelessly. Thanks for any help you can provide.

No, asset will always read the audio from NAS, it has to do this because upnp is http based, your network shares are not http based.
